Representative Mike Turner of Ohio said this is about U.S. allies.
Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska introduced legislation calling for a declaration of national emergency and to direct President Joe Biden to impose a ban on Russian oil imports.
The legislation has veto-proof majorities in the House and Senate who will vote to keep the U.S. from importing Russian oil to keep U.S. funds from going toward the invasion of Ukraine. The White House is not likely to approve the ban, which is why a veto-proof count is needed in both congressional chambers.
“This is about freedom,” said Representative Mike Turner of Ohio. “This is about supporting those who are fighting for self-determination. It’s about our allies, and it’s about threats to the United States. Vladimir Putin has openly threatened the United States. We certainly shouldn’t be his customer while he threatens us on the world stage.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress as they seek to limit the market for Russia’s oil.
- For Senators Manchin and Murkowski as they promote their legislation.
- For President Biden and his advisors as they consider the act that is likely to come to his desk.
